The UWA Concert Choir
sings the highest quality music from the vast history of
the choral repertoire, focusing on masterpieces and modern
compositions. Comprised of 30 - 50 of UWA's finest
students from throughout the University community, each
singer commits to a year of hard work and great rewards
while serving as ambassadors on campus and in the
community.
During the 2004-2005 season, the choir sang
a concert of choral standards by Haydn, Mozart,
Mendelssohn and Brahms at Livingston's First Presbyterian
Church. The 2004 year closed with the choir participating in the
annual UWA Fine Arts Department Christmas Concert. In the
spring of 2005 the choir performed the Requiem of
Gabriel Faure - the first major choral work undertaken by
the choir in some years.
The 2005 - 2006 season will see the choir stretching
their wings even more! The UWA Fine Arts Department's
Christmas Concert is scheduled for November 29 in Bibb
Graves Auditorium. Much of the fall will be spent
preparing several works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who
will be celebrating his 250th birthday in 2006! Several
Mozart concerts will be presented at different venues and
in local schools. Spring 2006 will also see the choir
joining forces with the UWA Singers and First Presbyterian
Church's Festival Choir to present Sing For The Cure
- a work commissioned by the Susan Komen Foundation to
raise awareness about breast cancer. The money raised at
this concert will be donated to the American Cancer
Society at Sumter County's Relay For Life.
The
UWA Singers are a less formal but
equally hard-working choral ensemble. As a smaller group,
the Singers travel around the county singing in nursing
homes, schools and for various civic organizations.
Sing For The Cure and a fall
Broadway Cabaret
are but two of the scheduled performances for the UWA
Singers this season.
